DR. TIMOTHY SEOW// .ids singapore. With an impressive track record and outstanding design, Dr Timothy Seow and his team at IDS bring more than 40 years of experience into every project. Raised in Singapore, trained in Oxford and inspired by the architecture of San Francisco and Vancouver, Dr Seow’s approach to architecture is a complex but effective combination of work ethics, programmatic analysis, strong contextual response and a sense of what makes life good. As one of the few Asian architects to be profiled in World Architecture magazine, Dr Seow has won numerous local and overseas prizes for his work. He has taken on numerous high-profile projects and founded his own firm which he led to prominence. In 1998, he was conferred a Doctorate by Oxford Brookes University – his alma mater – for his outstanding good work.

He set up his own practice in 1974 and has won international acclaim for his revolutionary work in defining new architectural forms, such as high-rise residential typology. Dr Seow started a trend and coined it “bungalows in the air”, a design concept which is still evident today in many acclaimed buildings. Among his earlier projects were Futura, Maxima, Westwoo, Beverly Mai and Draycott to name a few, all of which challenged his creative nous.In 1981, he was commissioned as the Master Planner for the township of Lekas Jaya at Kota Kinabalu. The Master Plan was subsequently presented to Dr Mahathir, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia.

He and his team have undertaken prestigious projects for residential, commercial, hospitality and institutional buildings as well as master planning in Singapore, Canada, China, the Middle East and South East Asia. They have proposed refreshing design ideas and concepts for a plethora of high profile projects, winning numerous local and overseas awards in the process. Dr Seow is intimately involved in every project undertaken by IDS, helping to define and drive every project to achieve more than was required in the design brief. Teamwork is the driving force behind IDS, whereby the creative flair and hard work of all the team members have contributed to the practice’s prominence in the building industry. The architects not only work closely with one another but also ensure clients understand, and can participate effectively in, the design process.
